Skin.Rock.Bone. documentation at The Soap Factory

My work is rooted in human connection, physical touch, unspoken language and Mother Nature. Empathy, resilience, inquiry, magic, light. These are the pillars of my design. I feel strongly about connecting my life, ideas, passions and concerns through a somatic process and ultimately, art.

I relate and respond

I search and re-search

I am bound and re-bound

Shooting from the hip

Energy recycles

And I am an artist

Still

Smooth fluid

Earthbound

Caught flow

Bones go

Skin go

I am the rock.

I am the body.

I am the artist.

Through exploration, dialogue, practice and collaboration I acknowledge the many fears, pleasures and mysteries we experience through the human body. I care greatly about making an accurate, beautiful image, but I prioritize honesty, improvisation and authenticity in the process of making still images. I think carefully about the experience of the subject(s) and how we might interact while crafting art. I limit my post-processing of all images and avoid skin retouching or other major “corrections.” These “imperfections” are meant to be part of my work.  I’ve had people tell me that my work is so clearly about beauty standards, censorship and body positivity.  But for me, it’s about finding a way in to nature through the body and it’s far too complex for words.
